Firstly brothers Karamazov has many different topics in it, secondly I think brothers Karamazov is much better written. This maybe because of the translation, I read the idiot by Constance Garnett, who's translation I didn't really like.

This is an incredible book. Read it in this translation: The Brothers Karamazov Fyodor Dostoevsky (Author), Richard Pevear (Translator), Larissa Volokhonsky (Translator) It makes a HUGE difference! Garnett translated some things in a such way that it changed the meaning of Dostoevsky. Just compare The Grand Inquisitor chapter in both translations/5(6). Chapter I. Fyodor Pavlovitch Karamazov. Alexey Fyodorovitch Karamazov was the third son of Fyodor Pavlovitch Karamazov, a land owner well known in our district in his own day, and still remembered among us owing to his gloomy and tragic death, which happened thirteen years ago, and which I shall describe in its proper place.

The Brothers Karamazov, completed in November just two months before Dostoyevsky's death, displays both his mastery as a storyteller and his significance as a thinker.

At the same time, it carefully explores the personalities and inclinations of the brothers themselves. Their psyches together represent the full spectrum of human nature, the continuum of faith and doubt.

In Dostoevsky completed The Brothers Karamazov, the literary effort for which he had been preparing all his life. Compelling, profound, complex, it is the story of a patricide and of the four sons who each had a motive for murder: Dmitry, the sensualist, Ivan, the intellectual; Alyosha, the mystic; and twisted, cunning Smerdyakov, the bastard child.4/5(9).

Dostoevsky's last and greatest novel, The Karamazov Brothers, is both a brilliantly told crime story and a passionate philosophical debate. The dissolute landowner Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov is murdered; his sons — the atheist intellectual Ivan, the hot-blooded Dmitry, and the saintly novice Alyosha — are all at some level involved.

The passionate Karamazov brothers spring to life, led by their roue of a father, who entertains himself by drinking, womanizing, and pitting his three sons against each other.
